1165. Fig and Brie Sandwich

Grilled cheese sandwiches have been vamped up and glorified way beyond the toast and cheddar variety. Variations are now served at Michelin star restaurants using the most expensive cheese and truffle and what have you.
This grilled cheese uses some good sturdy white bread, room temperature brie, and a ripe fig. To make things even better, some air dried beef is added in. While I did enjoy the sandwich, I do not believe it lives up to its hype.

Ingredients:

2 slices good white bread
1/3 wedge of brie, sliced
freshly ground black pepper
1 large ripe fig
2-3 slices viande sechee
1 Tbsp butter, soft

Method:

Spread the brie on the bread slices, top with freshly ground black pepper, slices of fresh fig, and the air dried beef slices.
Close the sandwich and spread the butter on the outside top and bottom of the sandwich.
Heat a pan over medium heat, then add the sandwich until the bread is golden on both sides and the cheese is oozing.
Serve straight off the pan, allowing a slight cooling time to not burn the roof of your tongue. Sweet, salty, crisp and oozy all in one bite.
