Flapjack is a tray-baked sweet made of porridge oats, and is of British origin. This is the recipe for classic flapjack because so many variations may be made to this base recipe.
Apple Cinny Flapjacks , Banana and Chocolate Chips Flapjacks , Blueberry Flapjacks , Apricot and Hazelnut Flapjacks , Crackle Mallow Flapjacks , Lemon and Ginger Flapjack , Peanut Butter Flapjacks , and Super Seedy Flapjacks are just some possible variations.
This recipe comes from the Lyle's Golden Syrup website, which is written on all their golden syrup cans.
The best part is that all this deliciousness is the result of only four ingredients!!
Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
3 Tbsp golden syrup
3 cups oats
Method:
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Grease and line a shallow 20cm square tin with baking parchment.
Put the butter, sugar and golden syrup into a medium pan and gently heat until melted.
Stir in the oats. Turn into the tin, level and press the mixture evenly and firmly with the back of a spoon. Bake for 25 minutes, or until just golden around the edges.
Remove from the oven and cool for 10 minutes then mark into 12 or 16 pieces whilst still warm.
Cool completely before turning out onto a board and cutting again with a sharp knife.
Flapjacks will keep up to a week in an airtight container.
