187. Pizza Pops

This is a wonderful finger food: calzone-like pops perfect for parties!(Calzone is an outside-in pizza)
I got this idea from Philsbuy, who use ready made dough for their pizza pops. I used the same dough I've used before for the rosemary-olive knots, but if you have ready made pizza dough on hand, do not hesitate to use it.

Children and grown-ups alike loved it, and you cannot go wrong with pizza.

Ingredients:

Dough:
3 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp salt
2 1/2 tsp yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
3 Tbsp olive oil

Filling:
1 block mozzarella cheese
1 jar pizza sauce
30 slices salami

To finish:
1 egg, beaten
toasted sesame seeds

Method:

To make the dough:
Combine the flour and salt in the bowl of a food processor.
Whisk the yeast into the water in a small bowl and whisk in the oil.
Pour the liquid into the processor bowl and pulse until the dough forms a ball.
Let rest for 10 minutes, then let the machine run continuously for 15 seconds.
Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise until it has doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.

To assemble:
Punch the dough down to deflate. and cut into 30 balls.
Flatten each ball into a circle, spread 1 teaspoon of the pizza sauce, topped with half a slice of salami, a generous cube of mozzarella, and the other salami half.
Gather the edges of the circle to form a parcel, pinching to close.
Place pinch-side down on a baking tray.

To finish:
Preheat oven to 400ºF.
Brush the pizza parcel-pops with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with the sesame.
Let rise again for about 20 minutes.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes until inflated and golden on the top as well as the base.
Perfect to be served at parties.
