1168. Mortadella Cheese Puff


Of course making your own puff pastry is optional when you can easily buy ready made, but when its so easy to whip up a batch, why not make your own? This is a quick comfort food that can be insanely and endlessly customized to what you may have on hand or cravings.




Ingredients:

1 batch puff pastry
2 heaped Tbsp grain mustard
deli cold cuts
cheese
1 egg, to glaze


Method:

Preheat oven to 420F.
Cut the puff pastry in half, and roll each half into a large rectangle about the same size (roughly 40cmx30cm).
Place one puff pastry rectangle on a non-stick baking sheet and spread the mustard evenly throughout, leaving an inch border. Layer the deli cuts and the sliced cheese.
Brush the borders with egg wash and place the other sheet over the lot.
Lock the sides by folding and crimping.
Brush the entire surface with the egg wash.
Poke holes in the surface with a knife or fork.
Bake for approximately 25 minutes until golden and puffed.
Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting and consuming.
