1247. Fruity Oats

Can we talk about iftar and leave out souhour? No, it just wouldn't be right, seeing how the hadiths point to it being such a blessed meal. So while the iftar is officially what breaks our fast in Ramadan, it is the souhour that gets the breakfast-style eats. Case and point: these fruity oats.
Oats/oatmeal is a popular choice for souhour since it is filling and keeps one satisfied well into a fasting day. I present three varieties of fruity oats: mango, berry, and date. The wonderful thing is that frozen fruit works best here, giving us good opportunity to use the underestimated frozen aisle. Furthermore, this recipe is totally customizable both in flavors (think: banana, chocolate, coffee...) and texture (firmer or looser; just add more milk).

Ingredients:

2 cups oats
1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup nuts/seeds
1/4 cup chia
1 cup milk
1 1/2 cups frozen fruit; thawed
2 Tbsp honey, optional

Method:

Toast the oats until slightly browned in a dry pan or in the oven. Cool completely before stirring into the yogurt. Add the chia seeds and the milk. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
At the same time, soak the nuts whole in water; refrigerate overnight.
Thaw the frozen fruit in the refrigerator overnight.
Next day, strain the nuts from the water and stir them, and the thawed frozen fruit, in the oat-yogurt until combined. Add honey to taste.
