1290. Swiss Mushroom Sliders

I am enjoying how simple and pleasurable warm sandwiches can be of late. Here is a Swiss mushroom variation combining a seasoned beef mince with mushroom and a delicious amount of melty cheese.
The bread is best bought. You know those packages with feather-light rolls touching each other from all sides and you get to pull them apart? Those are best for this purpose.

Ingredients:

For the meat:
1 Tbsp oil
1 tsp salt & pepper
1/2 tsp thyme
1/2 cup onion, diced
1 tsp garlic, grated
450g ground beef
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

For the mushroom sauce:
1/2 cup butter
3 cups mushrooms, sliced
1/4 cup broth
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
pinch of salt and pepper

For the bread:
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 tsp garlic, grated
1/4 tsp salt
1 package (12 count) bread rolls
12 slices swiss cheese

Method:

To make the meat, saute the onions, garlic, and ground beef altogether until browned. Add Worcestershire sauce and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until no pink remains in the meat. Remove from heat and set aside.

To make the sauce,
Cook mushrooms in butter for about 5-10 minutes. Add in broth and milk.
Reduce heat and slowly add cheese. Whisk constantly until the cheese is completely melted.
Add in cooked meat, and stir to combine.

Prepare the assembly:
In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, garlic, and salt.
Split your rolls in half, place the bottom half in a prepared baking dish.
Top the buns with half the Swiss cheese slices, follow with hamburger mixture, and then a second layer of the remaining Swiss cheese.
Place the top half of the buns on top and brush the top of the rolls with the melted butter mixture.
Cover the dish with tinfoil and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F or until the cheese is hot and bubbly.
Remove foil, and bake for an additional 5 minutes (or until the tops of the sliders turn a golden brown). Remove from oven, slice and serve.
