1851. Eggnog


Eggnog is a famous winter drink that is hyped up during the end of year holidays. Turns out, all this drink is, is a diluted egg custard flavored with nutmeg. 
I tried it nonetheless, and it was delicious both warm and cold. My favorite way to consume it was hot with an added shot of espresso for my morning coffee.




Ingredients:

6 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar (or maple syrup, or honey)
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups milk
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp vanilla




Method:

Beat egg yolks and sugar until frothy.
Gently heat milk, cream, nutmeg, and salt in a saucepan over low-medium heat until steaming. Do not boil. Remove from heat.
Gradually add hot milk to the egg mixture, 1 tablespoon at a time, whisking constantly. Pour back into the saucepan.
Heat the mixture while whisking until it slightly thickens (do not boil). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Transfer to a jar or pitcher and refrigerate until ready to serve.
