2079. Saj Bread Zaatar Cheese Boats

Zaatar, cheese, and tomato on some form of bread is a classic. This recipe just presents it differently. It has become such a favorite that I bulk freeze them and bake as needed throughout the week.

2036. Fresh Peach Donut Fritters

My first exposure to fruit fritters was as a child reading the Boxcar Children, when they picked cherries and ate fritters from their harvest. It seemed so exotic and exciting at the time.

1994. Pogaca Turkish Fetta Buns

Pogaca Turkish Feta Buns are popular savory, soft pastries commonly served for breakfast or as a snack with tea in Turkey and surrounding regions. One of the may overlaps between Ottoman and Arab cuisine is cheese stuffed pastries.

1967. Egyptian Gulash

Egyptian goulash is a phyllo pastry bake that’s often filled with ground meat, cheese or vegetables and coated in a milk-egg wash, which gives it a soft texture while maintaining the crispy layers.

1952. Cheese Thyme Shortbread Sticks

It was time for a savory post after the sweetness of the last two. Scotland comes in strong with the cheesy herby savory version of shortbread in the form of sticks.

A warm freshly baked batch of these filo cheese rolls with a side of fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, paired with endless flowing cups of mint tea is one of life's pleasures.

1928. Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls

You won't find any food coloring here; it's all from nature. With four other cinnamon rolls recipes on the blog, it is safe to assume we like them here at the MCW household. This blueberry-stuffed and blueberry-frosted version certainly does not disappoint.

1926. Comte Cheese Crackers

Snacking is a multi-cultural, and a multi-billion dollar industry. While store-bought goodies are often designed to make you addicted to the product, I can safely say that this homemade savory cheese cracker is among the best I've tasted and is just as addictive (without any of the chemical and synthetic nasties).

1905. Sujuk Paratha Rolls

A very simple two ingredients pastry that  packs a lot of flavor due to the heavily spiced sujuk.

1887. Savory Zaatar Cake

Wonderful Levant flavors are combined in this savory cake that can be sliced and served with lashings of lebne in place of frosting. Fresh zaatar leaves, olives, cheese, and nigella seeds are only some of the flavor notes.

1886. Purslane Fateer

A couple of weeks ago I had a hanker for lemony, tangy, fresh spinach fateer made from scratch right at home. I checked four or five different sores, online and in person, and none had fresh spinach. In the last one, I found two bundles of purslane, or bakle, so fate was sealed.

1829. Khfeefi Kleicha

Khfeefi is just Kleicha without the filling, shaped into disks and dunked into tea. It might havebeen created out of the necessity to use up extra dough when making kheicha, but it is so beloved that sometimes we make it just to make it.

1827. Rice Paper Cheese Croissant

I intentionally skip most "trends" on social media but food-related trends catch my attention. So far, a few have been great hots, and others, great flops. This is one of the more unexpected ones, a croissant made from rice paper. I opted for a savory cheese version, and might try the sweet counterpart at some point.

1814. Quick Walnut Baklava

Same concept as the feta filo parcels in the last post, but here is a sweet version that is essentially the easiest baklawa you will ever make.

1813. Quick Feta Filo Parcel

I'm all about quick and easy recipes of late. A long list of ingredients or a complicated method have me go a 180 degree heel-spin. So when I saw this non-recipe recipe in both savory (feta cheese) and sweet (walnut cinnamon, coming soon) versions, I was immediately on board.

1802. Easy Savory Filo Bake

The solution to a delicious filo pie without all the brushing of butter and laborious layers in the shred up the pastry and stir it right in the filling. Sounds drastic, but really works well. This is a savory vegetable filo bake, with classic flavors that work well together: feta, courgette, and dill.
