248. Baked Breaded Mushrooms

Don't all breaded and fried foods taste delicious??
In an attempt to slightly healthify (?) breaded mushrooms, I opted for baking them instead.
So this isn't really a recipe. It's more of a technique which you may apply to alot of different food: mushroom, aubergines, chicken, fish... you name it.

You may flavor the breadcrumbs as you like: parmesan, paprika, herbes de Provence, garlic powder, all work fine.
Wipe the mushrooms clean (washed mushrooms become icky and spongy and soggy), dunk in an egg wash, bread, spray with oil, and bake.
Enjoy a guilt-free popular side dish with sauces and garnishes of choice.

Ingredients:

button mushrooms
egg
breadcrumbs (seasoned or plain)
oil spray

Method:

Preheat oven to 400F.

Whisk the egg with a little salt and pepper in a bowl; set aside.
Place the (seasoned or plain) breadcrumbs in a separate bowl; set aside.
Wipe the mushrooms clean.
Dunk the mushrooms in the egg wash to coat, then in the breadcrumbs until covered completely.

Lay the mushroom in a single layer in a baking dish.
Spray with oil.
Bake for 20 minutes, turning halfway through.
Seve with some dipping sauce, like marinara or whipped garlic sauce.
