The kinds of desserts favored in the current Arabian popular culture is a bit strange to my taste. They for the most part fall under two categories: fried and soaked in sugar syrup, or originating from a variety of cans and packaged preserved ingredients. That's not to say they're not delicious; they are! Just not my everyday style is all.
Case and point: this refrigerator latte dessert. Every single ingredient comes from a package. Canned cream, powdered cream, granulated creme caramel... the whole nine yards. You could use fresh milk but hey, why not keep it UHT to retain the 100% processed authenticity?
Ingredients:
8 kiri squares (about 150g)
2 sachets dream whip powder
2 cans thickened cream
1 sachet latte powder
2 sachets creme caramel powder
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup sweet condensed milk
To assemble:
1/2 cup milk, extra to dip
2 Tbsp latte powder, extra
8 small packets sweet coffee biscuits
Method:
In a blender, combine the kiri, dream whip, thickened cream, latte powder, creme caramel powder, milk, and sweet condensed milk until smooth and homogeneous.
Combine the extra milk and latte powder in a shallow bowl. Dip the biscuits one by one in the milk mix and arrange into a single layer of your deep serving dish. Cover with a layer of the latte cream, and repeat for a total of five biscuit and cream layers or until you are out of ingredients, making sure to end with the cream layer.
Refrigerate overnight before serving.
