1739. Mushroom Sauce Burger Casserole


This is a layered casserole dish with mashed potato as the base, cooked burger patties right on top, and then a generous waterfall of mushroom cream sauce and cheese that is baked to a comforting bubble. 
I realize this might not be the best recipe to post in June summer days, but it was a frequent dish during Ramadan and I had to share. The combination of the ingredients makes for the ultimate comfort food, and using frozen burgers saves you the time and effort of seasoning and shaping minced meat.


Ingredients:

For the potato layer:
3 large potatoes, boiled
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup cream
salt and pepper

For the meat layer:
8 frozen burger patties

For the mushroom layer:
300g sliced fresh mushroom
2 cloves garlic
1 cup cream
1 cup shredded mozzarella salt and pepper




Method:

Mash the boiled potato while still hot, stir in the shredded cheese, cream, and seasoning. Spread over the bottom of a 12 by 12 inch deep rimmed baking dish.
Sear the burger patties until cooked through and golden. Cut in half and arrange over the mashed potato.
Sear the sliced mushroom in a pot until withered. Add the grated garlic and stir until fragrant. Add the cream and seasoning, let simmer on medium heat for a few minutes then pour over the burger layer. Top with the shredded mozzarella and bake in a preheated 400F oven for 30 minutes. Serve hot.
