I have a tender spot for family recipes. Usually, they just can't be beat. They would make the cut as family recipes because they stood the test of time. Although this cinnamon bun cake is somebody's family recipe, I wouldn't go as far a making it mine, but it certainly does satisfy a donut craving for sure.
Crisco is not something we use this my part of the world, so I just replaced with butter.
Ingredients:
2 cups self rising flour
4 eggs
1/2 cup soft butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup milk or buttermilk or a mix of both
2 tsp vanilla
Filling:
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 tsp cinnamon
Icing:
2 c powered sugar
3 T butter
1/4 c milk
1 t vanilla
Method:
Beat sugar and butter, add eggs and beat. Add flour and milk and vanilla and beat 1-2 minutes. Spread 1/2 of this into a greased and floured 9x13 pan. Sprinkle the filling evenly on cake. Pour and spread the rest of the batter on the filling. Swirl with a knife Bake at 350F for 30 minutes.
For the icing: Heat milk and butter, add sugar and vanilla. Pour over warm cake after poking holes.
