A light, fluffy, dainty, and deceptively easy-looking sweet.
These little shell-shaped cakes originate from France.
The following recipe was adapted from the wonderful kitchen of Bernard, and yielded 20 madeleines.

Ingredients:
2 eggs
2 eggs
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup flour, sifted
1/2 cup butter, melted
Method:
Combine the eggs, egg yolk, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl.
Beat continuously until pale.
Add the baking powder, stir.
Add the flour in three additions, beating after each addition.
Finally add the melted butter, stir till incorporated.
CHILL IN THE REFRIGERATOR 2 HOURS.
Drop by teaspoonful in prepared madeleines baking sheet.
Bake in preheated 360°F oven for 12 minutes.
