515. Indian Keema

This is an Indian-inspired dish named keema, which is basically minced meat.

You can make this as spicy or mild as you like; I opted for something in between.
It is very satisfactory on its own, but should you feel inclined to serve it with some form or carb to make it a more hearty meal, I suggest going for a side of caraway rice or some bread.

Ingredients:

500g minced meat
1 cup chopped onion
3 garlic cloves
1 cup diced potato
1 cup frozen peas
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp Madras curry powder
1/4 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
1x400g canned tomato
3 Tbsp tomato paste

Method:

Saute the meat, garlic, and onion in a pan until the meat has turned from red to brown and the onion has softened.
Add the peas, potato, salt, curry, chili, and garam masala.
Give it a stir then cover and let cook for 10 minutes over medium heat.
Add the pureed tomato can and the tomato paste.
Stir, cover, simmer another 15-20 minutes until the potatoes have cooked through and the sauce is rendered thick.
Serve with a side of caraway rice or some bread.

Hi Maryam, this looks delicious. Just wondering if the frozen peas need to be defrosted first otherwise they will stay hard, no? Sahteyn! Khadija

Salam Khadija!
No you don't need to defrost them, they will cook just fine.
Enjoy :)
