1391. Oozie Rice

Oozie rice is a meal popular in Jordan. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. Feel free to use different spices or just spices you are used to flavoring your rice and meat. The fried nuts at the top are unmissable.
The dish tends to be a bit dry for those who like some sauce with their food. Therefore you must serve it with plain yogurt, and once you taste it, you won't have it any other way.

Ingredients:

2 cups rice, soaked 30 mins
2 tsp 7-spice mix
500g minced meat
1 tsp allspice
2 cups frozen green peas
1/2 cup split blanched almonds
salt, pepper, oil
plain yogurt, to serve

Method:

Cook the rice: rinse and drain the rice. Saute the 7-spices and rice in 2 Tbsp oil until fragrant. Add boiled water until the rice is just covered. Bring to a boil, cover pot, reduce heat to lowest setting and steam for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, saute the minced meat and the allspice until the meat is cooked through. Add the frozen peas and stir until defrosted.
Fry the split blanched almonds until golden; drain over kitchen paper until serving.
To serve, lay the rice over your serving dish. Scatter the warmed meat and pea mixture, and sprinkle with the fried nuts.
Serve with ample amounts of plain yogurt.

Looks very tasty. May I ask what is in 7-spice mix?

It's a Middle Eastern spice mix that you can buy ready or make at home (it's called 7 spice mix).
