Carbs are such frenemies. They make you feel so good at the moment, and then you pay the price for your indulgence the next day. Oh, well. These garlic cheese bread buns make it worth it. So not only are they freshly baked bread buns stuffed with molten cheese, they are furthermore brushed with an irresistible garlic butter.
Best made and consumed on the same day, this is a great recipe for movie nights.
Ingredients:
Bread:
1 cup warm milk
1 cup warm water
2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp instant yeast
½ cup oil
4-5 cups flour
Stuffing:
Cheese of choice (cheddar, mozzarella, feta, kiri)
Garlic Butter:
100g salted butter
1 tsp. minced garlic
handful parsley, finely chopped
Method:
Knead the bread ingredients together until you have a smooth dough that no longer stick to the sides of the bowl. Set aside, covered, for an hour to double in bulk.
Portion the dough into about 20 pieces and proceed to stuff with the cheese and form balls.
Lay the balls, seam-side down in a baking sheet, spaced about a finger's width apart to allow for expansion. Set aside covered for 30 minutes to allow for a second rise. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 420F. Bake in preheated oven for about 25 minutes until golden on the bottom. Broil for about a minute to brown the tops as well.
In a saucepan, combine the butter and garlic over medium heat. Swirl just until the butter has melted and the garlic is fragrant. Off-heat, stir in the chopped parsley and proceed to brush the butter over the freshly baked buns. Serve warm. Best made and consumed on the same day.
