There is a surah in the holy Qura'an that is titled "Figs and Olives", and is the inspiration for many a health remedy. For those who don't know, we have an entire school dedicated to natural remedies and health recommendations derived from the Qura'an and the Sunna. Just search "Medicine of the Prophet" and you will find no shortage of books.
I would happily dedicate the rest of my like studying and researching this book to ultimately publish a cookbook derived from it. "Pumpkin Stew to heat the heart", and other such recipes. Anyways, sticking to just the topic at hand, I have some across many jars of dried figs seeped in extra virgin olive oil and the myriad of health benefits it has. The thing is, I don't really like the crunch of the dried fig seeds, and happily stumbled on this idea of soaking dates in extra virgin olive oil. The benefits might not be exactly the same, but the can only be good. It is recommended to let the dates soak for three days before starting to consume. This mix of dates in extra virgin olive oil is notably rich in iron and vitamin D. I just might be tempted to make figs in olive oil to get the whole spectrum of benefits (copper, B-complex, calcium). I eat two halves of a date in the morning on an empty stomach and I swear it keeps me comfortably satiated for five hours.
Ingredients:
Dried dates
Extra virgin olive oil.
Method:
Halve the dates, remove the pit, and stack them in a clean jar.
Pour over the extra virgin olive oil until completely covered.
Cover and set aside out of direct sunlight for three days before starting to consume.
It is recommended to have one or three dates each morning on an empty stomach.
