Evidently, even grilled cheese sandwiches have a secret or two. The secret here is to have the heat low enough to slowly brown the bread allowing it enough time to penetrate to the cheese and actually melt it. No one wants a grilled cheese sandwich with cold unmelted cheese. I used burger buns for this recipe, but any soft bread would do.
Ingredients: makes 2
2 burger buns
1/4 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
4 slices salami
1/2 tsp oregano
butter, for the pan
Method:
Make a sandwich by layering the tomato sauce, cheese, salami, and oregano. Seal the sandwich.
Heat a pan to medium-low and put in a pat of butter. Grill your sandwich low and slow, pressing down to flatten as you go.
Flip and grill on the opposite side too.
The sandwich is done when the cheese inside oozes and the bread outside is a golden brown.
