I would never have imagined that simple supermarket mini bread buns could be turned into something so lush and delicious. The buns are coated in some melted butter then sprinkled with cinnamon sugar for the ultimate express cinnamon bun experience.
The cream cheese frosting just pulls it all together. This must be consumed while still hot or warm.
Ingredients:
1 packet dinner roll buns
120g butter, melted
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
For the frosting:
1/4 cup cream cheese
2 Tbsp butter, soft
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup powder sugar
Method:
Score an X into each bun, without cutting all the way through.
Mix the brown sugar and the cinnamon to incorporate.
In an oven safe dish, pour half the melted butter and toss the buns to coat.
Sprinkle half the cinnamon sugar over the base of the dish, and arrange the butter-coated buns on top. Sprinkle the remining cinnamon sugar over the buns and drizzle the remining melted butter over the surface.
Bake in a preheated 400F oven for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile make the frosting by blending all the frosting ingredients together using a stick blender.
Frost the buns a few minutes after they are out of the oven and consume while still warm.
