2038. Palestinian Tahini Tuna Dip

Salata bi Tahina wa Tuna is a popular, mayo-free Levantine tuna dip combining flaked canned tuna, creamy sesame tahini, fresh lemon juice, and traditional Arabic flavors. It is typically served as a quick, refreshing mezze dish, easily scooped up with warm pita bread or fresh vegetables.

Ingredients:

2 cans tuna in water, drained and flaked
½ cup tahini paste
4 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ teaspoon of salt (or to taste)
½ cup finely diced tomatoes
1 onion, diced small
¼ cup of finely chopped fresh dill
2 tablespoons of finely diced jalapeño or green chili pepper

Method:

In a mixing bowl, vigorously whisk the tahini, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt. Whisk until the mixture turns smooth, pale, and creamy. Stir the olive oil and ground cumin into the tahini mixture. Fold in the drained, flaked tuna and mix gently, folding in also the diced tomatoes, chopped dill, and chili peppers at this stage so they are evenly distributed. Transfer the dip to a shallow serving bowl and garnish with an extra drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of paprika, and a few whole parsley leaves. Serve the dip chilled or at room temperature with hot pita pockets, crispy pita chips, or raw sliced vegetables.
