2055. Cherry Pit Syrup

Don’t throw away your leftover fruit pits; make naturally flavored syrup instead. Use leftover fruit pits and strawberry tops to make a light, refreshing homemade syrup.
Cherry syrup is versatile and works well in both hot and cold drinks, as well as desserts. Cold uses include sparkling cherry soda (cherry syrup + sparkling water + ice), lemonade, iced tea or coffee, yogurt, overnight oats, or fruit bowls. Hot uses include coffee drinks, tea, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal or porridge.

Ingredients:

¼ cup cherry pits
¼ cup sugar

Method:

Combine pits and sugar and stir in a jar, refrigerate for 24 hours to help the sugar draw out fruit flavor and form the syrup. Strain and discard the pits, using the syrup in hot or cold drinks or desserts.
